The Fringe brochure’s out and the cats are out the bags. Click on the links to the right for more information on our Edinburgh activities. It’s a tidy haul that includes both of last year’s Edinburgh Comedy Award winners, a late night Jazz show, brutal bloody murders, a gig by the sea, a 3 sided football tournament, an album launch, and a shady new enterprise called Invisible Dot Communications Ltd.

JOHN-LUKE ROBERTS DISTRACTS YOU FROM A MURDER

John-Luke Roberts performs whimsical, esoteric comedy to distract you from the brutal, sickening murder he will be committing during the show. John-Luke is ½ of peculiar double-act The Behemoth, Josie Long’s tour support and writer for Radio 4’s News Quiz. This will be the first time he has murdered professionally.

THE INAUGURAL 3 SIDED FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

On a 3 sided pitch 3 teams of 6 compete 3 thirds of 6 minutes for the prestigious Mike Shields Shield*.

“The key to the game is that it does not foster aggression or competitiveness. Unlike two-sided football, no team keeps a record of the number of goals they score. However they do keep a tally of the goals they concede, and the winner is determined as the team which concedes least goals. The game deconstructs the mythic bi-polar strcuture of conventional football, where an us-and-them struggle mediated by the referee mimics the way the media and the state pose themselves as “neutral” elements in the class struggle.”

The game will include teams from various publications, as well as performers, venue staff and members of the public. It’s free to spectate, of course.

* Mike Shields is COMMUNITY PARKS OFFICER , SOUTH EDINBURGH LOCAL OFFICE. He is instrumental.
